THE FUTURE
OF JERUSALEM
ISAIAH 62
God has a plan for
Jerusalem, and the Lord of the universe has already outlined the future of this
city. In our present study, we see the Lord restoring Israel and making
Jerusalem the most important city on earth. Satan will do all he can to hinder
the promises of God, and that may explain why the United Nation, the Muslems,
and the World Council of Churches are all trying to be the controlling entity
over the city. God himself will in the end keep His promises to Zion, and
in the reign of Messiah, Jerusalem will become God’s masterpiece. The
reason Jerusalem does not have peace today is her Messiah is not present, but
there is coming a day when the program of God for Jerusalem will be put in
place. The opening of Isaiah 62 makes it clear that the Lord who speaks
will not keep silent until her righteousness shines forth like the dawn.
The nations, which now despise and want to destroy Jerusalem, will then see what
God has done for His people. No longer will Israel bring dishonor upon
God’s name but will be given a new name as a mark of dignity appropriate to her
stature as a holy people. Israel has been forsaken since the
Crucifixion of Christ but in the coming Kingdom will be known by the term,
“Hephzibah,” which means “My delight-is-in-her.” In the word, “Beulah
which means “married,” we see redeemed splendor of The Bride of God,” which ties
this to Revelation 21:2 and 22:17.
Every right thinking Christian can pray for the peace of Jerusalem and hope for
the day when there will be peace and Jerusalem will be a praise in the earth as
set forth in Isaiah 62:7. God has proclaimed that the nations of the earth
should announce to the daughter of Zion that her salvation is coming. Part
of God’s over all program is the salvation of Israel, and that will be
accomplished through a personal Savior, (Yeshva-Jesus). As Christians of
this present Church age, we should be presenting this message to every Jewish
person on the face of the earth. We should be sowing the seed of God’s
Word among those who will make up the 144,000 Jewish preachers of Revelation 7
and who preach the gospel of the Kingdom during the seven year tribulation
period following the calling home of the Church in I Thess. 4:13-18. The
chapter closes with the promise that this once forsaken and desolate city will
become the spiritual center and the attraction of all nations. What a
glorious future awaits the city of Jerusalem during the Millennium as Messiah
reigns from the Holy City.
